Kenny Crawford

President

Kenny Crawford (he/him) is the President of the St. Joe Pride Board. Married to his husband, Miles, for 19 years, Kenny is a proud father of three children and a grandfather. He grew up in Chillicothe, MO, and now resides in Cameron, MO, working as the Church Administrator at First Christian Church in St. Joseph, MO.

Kenny's path into LGBTQ+ advocacy began with his determination to safeguard his marriage and family. The tragic loss of two close friends to suicide, following their rejection by their families after coming out, deepened his resolve to make sure everyone feels valued and supported. He is driven to prevent such heartbreak and to champion equal rights for all.

Professionally, Kenny manages daily operations at his church. His background as a healthcare social worker for 25 years, both in long-term care and hospital settings, has given him deep insights into the struggles faced by young people who feel they can't be their true selves.

Kenny has been involved with the St. Joe Pride Board for 12 years, serving as Secretary for 8 years and President for the past 2 years. His responsibilities have included taking minutes at meetings, leading monthly meetings, and supporting board members in their leadership roles. He is dedicated to maintaining a positive presence both at board meetings and in the public eye, ensuring that the community knows the Pride Board is there to support everyone in the LGBTQ+ community.

Kenny is particularly proud of the growth of St. Joe Pride Fest into a fun, family-friendly weekend event. His most impactful contribution has been speaking out at community functions about the board's achievements. His goals include continuing to be a positive influence on the board and increasing its visibility in the community.

Outside his professional and advocacy work, Kenny has directed a women's and men's a cappella chorus for 32 years. His family is his driving force in his advocacy efforts. Kenny hopes to leave a legacy of positive impact on the board, demonstrating that with teamwork, they can achieve anything for the community.
